South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Thursday that it has developed a new liquid crystal display (LCD) panel which can show images on both sides.

The LCD measuring 2.2 inches diagonally is designed for use in slim handsets which are gaining popularity around the world, said a statement of the company.

The new product will be used mainly in folder-type handsets which need two display panels.

Samsung Electronics said mass production of the product will start in the first quarter of this year and the company plans to unveiled the new product next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
