Royal vows to give priority to families if elected
font size

Segolene Royal, French Socialist Party's presidential candidate declared on Thursday that, if elected, she would "give priority to families," in particular the improvement of housing conditions.

"Housing is the most basic element in the life of a family," said Royal in a speech elaborating her agenda to the French people.

"The glaring inequalities that exist in this area must be dealt with so as to guarantee housing for all," she continued.

Royal, 52, who is hopeful to be the first woman president in France, said that "urgent solutions must be found and particularly the requirement for every city to develop emergency housing units for 1,000 people."

Royal also called for the construction of 120,000 social housing units that are needed.
