Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stressed the need to improve management and supervision of rural markets here on Friday, urging a fair and healthy environment be established to provide for sound economic development in the country.

He told the annual national industrial and commercial administration conference that it is a long-term task to improve management and create sound market order.

Vice Premier Wu Yi told the conference that the country should improve food safety and tighten rules on market access to ensure the safety of the public.

She said authorities will punish pyramid sellers and those who sell fake medicines and medical services.

She urged local authorities to further crack down on fake and shoddy goods to safeguard the interests of farmers and ensure the legal use of registered trademarks. .
