Various obsolete war material used by the former military forces of the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) in Angolan province of Cabinda have been destroyed in a ceremony attended by the coordinator of the joint commission for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding for Peace in the region, Virg??lio de Fontes Pereira.
Bento Bembe, chairman of the Cabinda Forum for Dialogue (FCD), said this action shows the Angolans` capacity of solving their problems without foreign aid, and marks the definitive end to war in the northern province, reported Angola Press Agency ANGOP Saturday.
Bento Bembe assured that henceforth FLEC ex-soldiers and other organizations controlled by the Cabinda Forum for Dialogue (FCD) will be under the services of the "forces of peace."
Cabinda, which produce 60 percent of Angola's oil, is a sliver of land sandwiched between Congo Brazzaville and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
An armed conflict for secession led by the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) has occurred in the territory since Angola's independence in 2004, FLEC, the Church and other organizations set up the FCD to enter into dialogue with the Angolan central government for peace in Cabinda.
