Two U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq

Two U.S soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Baghdad and western Iraq, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

A Multinational Division - Baghdad soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol by small arms fire in southwestern part of the capital on Saturday, the military said in a statement.

The soldier's unit was "providing route security on a well- traveled route in the area when they received small arms fire," the statement added.

Separately, a marine assigned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group died on Friday from wounds sustained due to enemy action while operating in Iraq's western Anbar province, the military said in another statement.

The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq to 3008 since March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
