China said on Thursday that it is groundless and untenable for Japan to see the European Union (EU)'s removal of arms embargo on China posing threat to the peace in East Asia.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks in a regular press conference when asked to comment on Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's talks with his UK counterpart Tony Blair in which Abe asserted that EU's lift of military arms embargo on China would cast impact on east Asian security.
Liu said China has demanded the EU to disembargo the sales of military arms out of the hope that the EU could eradicate its political discrimination against China, noting that the EU should make early and right decision on this and relevant party should stop meddling in this.
Liu said the current China-Japan relations is at a new starting point and China does hope to make joint and unremitting efforts with Japan to further improve bilateral ties.
