Two policemen were killed and another one was injured Friday morning in an claymore mine attack carried out by the Tamil Tiger rebels in north of Sri Lanka, according to a official source.
The Media Center for National Security said in a statement that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) detonated a claymore mine fixed to a bicycle targeting a bowser (a type of vehicle used to transport liquid) belonging to the police in Vavuniya district around 10:30 a.m. local time.
"The blast killed two policemen and injured another who were traveling in the bowser to distribute water to the civilians and the police," the statement said.
Conflict between the government troops and the LTTE has been escalating since December 2005, with more than 3,800 people being killed.
