Trains collide in Thailand, killing 3, injuring over 50

At least three train workers were killed and over 50 passengers were injured when a passenger train rammed into another in Thailand's central-southern seaside town of Hua Hin early Sunday morning.

The accident happened at 3 a.m. on Sunday (2000 GMT Saturday) at the Nongkae railway station in Hua Hin, local police said.

Police said the accident happened when a Langsuan-Thonburi running train scheduled to pass through the Nongkae station was directed into a wrong track and rammed into a parking Bangkok-Yala train.

The engine and three passenger carriages of the Bangkok-Yala were thrown out of the track by the impact, which also caused the front part of the Langsuan-Thonburi train to derail at well.

The driver and a female worker of the Bangkok-Yala train were found dead inside a carriage while a male worker of the Bangkok- Yala train died on his way to a hospital, local reports said.

Some 50 injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The accident disrupted the train service between the central and southern Thailand.
