    Hukou waterfall on the Yellow River is frozen due to rapid temperature dropping, turning its splashing water beads into ice of various shapes and shades -- a great attraction to winter tourists.

    A mummy from the Chachapoyas culture is displayed in the Museum of The Nation before an exhibition in Lima, Jan. 9, 2007. The Museum of The Nation will open an exhibition on Jan. 11, 2007, showing mummies found in the Amazon rainforest region of Chachapoyas, northern Peru, dating from between 900 and 1500 from the Chachapoyas and the Incas cultures.

    Extremely rare gibbon born in south China

    A Hainan Gibbon laps its newborn gibbon baby in the forest of south China's Hainan Province, the only habitat the gibbon still survives in, in this photo taken on January 13, 2007. The Hainan Gibbon is one of the most threatened species of primate in the world, with only 15 individuals, including the newborn, still known to exist in the wild, in Bawangling National Nature Reserve.

    Tenor Domingo acts as China's 'First Emperor' in opera

    World famous tenor Placido Domingo acts as ancient Chinese emperor Qin Shihuang during the performance of the opera "The First Emperor" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on Saturday. The opera, created by Chinese-American composer Tan Dun and directed by Zhang Yimou, was broadcast live to a global audience of nearly 30,000 people in movie theaters in North America, Europe and Japan.
