Maldives' president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom told the visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Sunday that his government hopes to learn China's experience to speed the development of the Maldives.
During his talks with the delegation led by Liu Yandong, a CPC Central Committee member and vice chairwoman of China's top advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Gayoom said the Maldives wants to learn China's successful experience in developing economy and building harmonious society.
Gayoom, who is also the chairman of the ruling People's Party, said his party hopes to further develop its relations with the CPC and promoting the relationship of the two countries.
Liu Yandong thanked the Maldivian government and its people for their support to China on the issues of Taiwan and human rights.
She said the Chinese government hopes to work together with the Maldivian government in pushing forward the exchange and cooperation of the two countries.
Liu Yandong and the CPC delegation arrived here on Saturday for a two-day goodwill visit to the Indian Ocean archipelago at the invitation of the Maldivian government.
She also held talks with Ahmed Zahir, speaker of the Maldivian parliament (People's Majlis) on Saturday.
