Chinese police tracks down runaway driver for accident killing 17

Police have arrested a truck driver who fled after allegedly causing a traffic accident that killed 17 people in south China's Guangdong Province.

Tan Enyang, the driver, was arrested in Dongguan city of Guangdong where he worked after being on the run for more than four months, the policy said.

The accident occurred at 1:10 a.m. on August 26 when a bus crashed into a truck on the freeway near Shaoguan city, leaving 17 passengers dead and 33 more injured.

Police in Shaoguan said the accident was mainly the responsibility of Tan. He had no driving license and was reversing the truck without warning because the truck's rear lights were all broken.

Tan was also accused of overloading the truck.

The truck was from central Hunan Province, while the coach was on its way to Shangqiu city in Henan Province, according to Shaoguan traffic police.
