China says its position on UN reform unchanged
font size

China's position on UN reform has remained unchanged, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing Tuesday.

Liu made the above remarks when asked whether there has been an exchange of views on the UN reform between Chinese Premier Wen Jianbao and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the Philippines.

"We support necessary and reasonable reform of the UN Security Council aiming to strengthen its authority and efficiency. Representation of developing countries, particularly the African countries, should be increased in the Security Council," Liu said.

Liu said various parties still have differences on the reform and he hoped the member states can conduct sufficient consultations so as to find a solution that is accepted by the majority of countries.
