Newly-elected Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa on Tuesday met with visiting Chinese envoy Wang Guangtao, who arrived in Quito to attend Correa's inauguration ceremony.
During the meeting, Correa expressed thanks to the Chinese government for sending Wang, who is also construction minister, to attend his presidential inauguration ceremony as a special envoy, and asked Wang to convey his greetings to Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
Correa spoke highly of China's economic achievements in recent years, saying that the Ecuadorian government had been paying great attention to developing relations with China. He also expressed the hope that the two countries could strengthen communication and cooperation in political, trade and other fields.
Ecuador also firmly pursues the one-China policy, and won't have any relations with Taiwan, the president said.
At the invitation of the Ecuadorian government, Wang attended Correa's inauguration ceremony on Monday as the Chinese government's special envoy.
