font size

The European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner on Thursday delivered a speech in Beijing entitled "The EU and China: Moving Forward."

"Twenty years ago, EU and China were merely a trade partnership. Now we have become strategic partners in many fields, " Waldner said.

In the speech at Renmin University of China, she said the strategic partnership between EU and China is of great importance to addressing such important issues as global security and climate changes.

She said the population of the EU and China make up one third of the whole world. How they act, how they take on their responsibilities and how they cooperate will affect the whole world.

She said that China and the EU should cooperate to build a more secure, stable and peaceful world.
