A triple-vaccine against the three most dangerous poultry diseases - H9 subtype of influenza virus (low pathogenic), infectious bronchitis (IB) and Newcastle Disease (ND) - has been developed in Luoyang in central China's Henan province, according to the local bureau of animal husbandry.
One of Henan's key scientific research projects between 2006 and 2010, the vaccine was developed by Luoyang Pu-Like Bio-engineering Corporation after five years of research and testing. Vaccines from follow-up projects will be available on the market in April, November and December this year.
Over 90 percent of avian influenza outbreaks are low pathogenic. They do not kill people but do reduce the egg-laying rate of poultry by 30 to 90 percent, and hinder the growth of chicken for meat significantly.
