Bolivian President Evo Morales on Friday requested a price hike of the country's natural gas exported to Brazil, local media reported.
"It is impossible that Bolivia goes on subsidizing gas to Brazil," Morales said during the closing session of the 32nd summit meeting of the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Brazil imports around 30 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from Bolivia, paying four U.S. dollars per million BTUs (British thermal unit). Bolivia wants Brazil to pay around five dollars per million BTUs.
"We just want a fair price," Morales said.
The two countries have held several rounds of talks on the proposed gas price hike and are expected to reach an agreement in April.
