12 websites in HK win merit awards

Twelve healthy and resourceful websites in Hong Kong Saturday received merit awards and two others won "Meritorious Website Hall of Fame Awards" as part of the "2006 Meritorious Website Contest" organized by the government.

The 12 awarded websites cover a variety of topics including general information, education, psychology and environmental protection, including Yahoo Hong Kong, the Ocean park, and Radio Television of Hong Kong.

The "Meritorious Website Hall of Fame Awards" goes to Hyper Earth Rescue Team, which promotes ideas of environmental protection and www.mcdull.hk, which provides useful information and resourceful stories through a famous cartoon pig, named mcdull.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing Lorna Wong said, "The Internet has become a common tool for information search and communication. On the Internet, there is beneficial information but also objectionable articles which could have bad influence on youngsters."

"It is very important to strengthen the education for youngsters for a correct concept about the correct use of the Internet, to combat the possible bad influence," she added.
