China says it opposes arms races in space
font size

China opposes the weaponization of space and any arms race in space, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing Tuesday in response to questions concerning China's space experiment recently.

"What needs to be stressed is that China has always supported the peaceful use of space," Liu said.

China has never participated and will never participate in any arms race in outer space. This test was not directed at any country and does not pose a threat to any country, he said.

The spokesman also revealed that China has informed some countries including Japan and the United States about the experiment.
