China is one the most important partners of the United States in the United Nations, and their cooperation can be "very effective", said a senior U.S. diplomat in Beijing Tuesday.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Kristen Silverberg made the remarks after a regular communication visit to China from Jan. 21.
During the visit, she exchanged views with senior Chinese officials including Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai on a wide range of major issues such as the Korean and Iranian nuclear issues, Sudan's Darfur issue and UN reform.
Silverberg said she thought China and the United States worked closely in the United Nations and could achieve positive results and that one aim of her China visit is to make sure the ties grow even closer.
She will leave Beijing for Tokyo on Wednesday and meet several Japanese senior officials.
