U.S. stocks rebound on higher oil prices
font size

U.S. stocks rebounded on Tuesday as crude oil prices climbed above 55 dollars.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 56.64, or 0.45 percent, to 12,533.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 5.04, or 0.35 percent, at 1,427.99 while the Nasdaq composite index added 0.34, or 0.01 percent, to 2,431.41.

Crude prices leapt more than 4 percent as the Department of Energy said the government will double the size of the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Boosted by higher crude prices, Exxon Mobil Corp., ConocoPhillips and Chevron Corp. became the major gainers in the markets.
