Chinese plaintiffs of Chongqing mass bombings suit demand right view on crimes
font size

Three Chinese plaintiffs of the Chongqing mass bombings suit demanded Wednesday afternoon on the Tokyo District Court that the Japanese government adopt a right view on the crimes committed by the Japanese invasion army and give apology and compensation to the victims.

The three plaintiffs, from Leshan city of Sichuan province in southwest China, gave their speeches one by one during the court statement procedure, the second of its kind.

They strongly reprimanded then Japanese invasion army for its atrocious indiscriminate bombings on Leshan, told of the history of the killings of their relatives in the bombing and demanded a fair ruling.

A group of 40 Chinese victims or family members of the victims of the Chongqing mass bombings and Leshan mass bombings filed a damages suit against the Japanese government to the Tokyo District Court last March. The case was known as the Chongqing mass bombings suit.

The Japanese invasion army conducted indiscriminate bombings on Chongqing and nearby Leshan from 1938 to 1943. A recent study by a Chinese group showed that around 23,600 people were killed and about 37,700 people were wounded during the mass bombings.
