Chinese mainland deports suspected Taiwan bank van robber
font size

The Chinese mainland authorities on Thursday deported a suspected Taiwan robber accused of making off with the funds from a bank security van that was transporting cash in Taipei on Jan. 2.

Li Hanyang, who worked as an armored vehicle driver in Taipei, stole 56 million New Taiwan dollars (about 1.75 million U.S. dollars) after drugging a colleague in the van. He later flew to Hong Kong.

Mainland police authorities arrested him in southwestern Yunnan Province on Jan. 9. He was in the company of his younger brother Li Jinzan, who lives on the mainland.

The two brothers were escorted back to Taiwan at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police authorities on the Chinese mainland have returned 123 criminal suspects to Taiwan since 2000, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
