Liu Weiming, former vice governor of south China's Guangdong Province, has been stripped of his membership of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) for serious breach of discipline.

The standing committee of the Guangdong provincial people's congress adopted the decision on Thursday.

Liu, 68, was dismissed for "seriously violating discipline", said the committee.

Previous media reports say Liu has been involved in economic crimes.

Liu was earlier expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Party's anti-corruption watchdog.

Liu was born in October 1938 in Ningxiang of central China's Hunan Province. He worked as vice governor of Guangdong from 1988 to 1998 and vice chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the province's advisory body, from 1998 to 2003.
