Chinese FM spokeswoman expects fair assessment of China's human rights conditions

China hopes to see comprehensive, objective and fair assessment of its development and human rights conditions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Thursday.

Jiang made the remarks when asked to brief about a delegation of Reporters Without Borders visiting China and meeting Chinese officials, and the possibility of the organization having an office in Beijing.

Jiang said she has learned about the visit but did not have much information about it.

"We have always believed that international dialogue on human rights should be held on the basis of equality and mutual respect, " Jiang said. "We hope they can have a comprehensive, objective and fair assessment of China's development and human rights conditions."

"This will help improve the understanding of China and be conducive to bilateral exchanges and dialogue," she said.
