Explosions injure five in Mogadishu: reports

At least two government police stations in the Somali capital Mogadishu were targeted with artillery and mortar fires on Saturday night, reports reaching Nairobi said Sunday.

According to the local Shabelle Media Network, unknown gunmen firstly ambushed Hawlwadag police station in south of Mogadishu, wounding four civilians and one police officer. Minutes later, another mortar explosion happened at Wardhigley police station. No one was hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile unknown assailants targeted the Ethiopian military barracks in south Mogadishu on Friday night. No casualties were reported.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for any of the nightly series attacks against the government and Ethiopian military bases in the capital.

The government spokesperson Abdirahman Dinari who spoke to the press on Saturday night after the explosions said remnants of the routed Islamists were to blame for the hit and run attacks.

"Before Islamists took control of the capital, specific individuals were being assassinated and when they clutched control of the capital, assassinations halted. Now that they were defeated, killing has restarted," he said, adding that the transitional government was capable of curbing the security situations in Mogadishu.
