Shanghai's GDP exceeds one trillion yuan for first time

According to statistics released by the Shanghai Bureau of Statistics and the Shanghai Investigation Team on January 23 and verified by the National Bureau of Statistics, Shanghai had a total GDP of 1.029697 trillion yuan in 2006 for the first time in history.

Shanghai is now the seventh mainland province to record a GDP in excess of one trillion yuan. Other provinces to have had such a high GDP include Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan and Hebei province. Shanghai is also the very first municipality to enter this class.
