Portuguese PM leaves Beijing for E. China visit

Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates on Thursday left Beijing for China's financial hub Shanghai.

As guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Socrates pays his first China visit since taking office from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3.

During his stay in Beijing, Socrates held talks with Wen, pledging to further trade ties and seek cooperation in more areas, and also met with Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and Vice President Zeng Qinghong.

Socrates plans to visit Macao Special Administrative Region after the Shanghai tour.
