Deutsche Bank posts record profit in 2006

Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest listed bank, reported a record net profit of 6 billion euros (7.8 billion U.S. dollars) on Thursday, local reports said.

The bank have "excellent prospects for continued success" this year, said Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Josef Ackermann in Frankfurt.

Analysts had previously estimated the bank's 2006 net profit at near 5.6 billion euros. On the previous year, the bank's profit stood at 3.5 billion euros.

The fourth-quarter pretax profit also rose more than expected, by 81 percent to 1.9 billion euros.

Still, some investors remain cautious with the bank's performance, saying the bank's growth might lose momentum if strong global trading markets were to dip.
