Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates arrived in Macao on late Friday to kick off his two-day visit here.

The prime minister told the media upon his arrival that he is glad to see the rapid development in Macao and he hoped the visit will further enhance relations between Portugal and Macao.

The Portuguese prime minister is scheduled to meet with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, during his visit.

He is also slated to attend a trade promotion forum, to visit the University of Macao, the Portuguese School of Macao and Portugal's Consulate General in Macao.

Macao is the last stop of Socrates's China tour, which took him to Beijing and Shanghai.
