Five militants were killed on Saturday during a special operation in the town of Malgobek, northwest of Russia's Ingush Republic, Russian news agencies reported.
Deputy chief of the Organized Crime Department, Magomed Dzeitov, and several police were wounded while storming a fifth-floor apartment that had been earlier seized by a group of militants in Malgobek, the law enforcement agencies said.
According to preliminary reports, Russian military forces neutralized those militants who were involved in the attack on Ingush law enforcers in June 2004 when 79 people were killed and over 100 injured.
