Afghan gov't has yet to take step for dislodging militants from district

Though three day has passed since militants capturing Musa Qala district in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, the administration has yet to take any step for regaining it.

Taliban militants in a surprise attack overran the district Friday and destroyed the compound housing the district governor and police chief.

"Defense Ministry has not taken any steps as it depends on Interior Ministry. If the Interior Ministry asks us we would retake it,"spokesman of the Defense Ministry Zahir Azimi told Xinhua.

Officials at the Interior Ministry were reluctant to make comment.

Meanwhile, spokesmen of the Interior Ministry Zamarai Bashari, according to Afghanistan official news agency Bakhtar, described the situation in Musa Qala as critical.

Bashari also noted that the government had already taken necessary decisions to restore law and order in the lawless Musa Qala district.
