Bombs wound 10 soldiers, 3 civilians in Thai south

Ten soldiers and three civilians were injured by mobile phone triggered roadside bomb blasts in southern Thai provinces of Narathiwat and Pattani on Monday morning, police said.

The first bomb exploded around 6:45 a.m. local time on Monday (2345 GMT, Sunday) at a roadside in Paruru village of Sungai Padi district of Narathiwat province, leaving three soldiers slightly injured, the Police were quoted by the web edition of local newspaper the Nation as saying.

About 45 minutes later, a second bomb exploded in Yeulor village of Bacho district, in Narathiwat province, leaving 7 soldiers slightly injured.

The third roadside bomb exploded at 8:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) on Monday in Pattani province as a village chief Kuheng Sahi was driving a vehicle, slightly injuring Kuheng and two of his passengers.

Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, the three Thai southern border provinces, were plagued by violence related to an ongoing insurgency which has claimed nearly 2,000 lives since it resumed in early 2004.
