A former senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the northern Liaoning Province has been jailed for 13 years after his appeal against a corruption verdict was dismissed by local court.

Qin Lianhui, former deputy secretary-general of the Fushun city CPC committee, was convicted of taking more than 400,000 yuan (51,414 U.S. dollars) in bribes from a hotel manager surnamed Wang to help acquire land to build a new hotel, the Yingkou Intermediate People's Court heard.

Qin was also found guilty of offering 200,000 yuan (25,707 U.S.dollars) to Zhou Yinxiao, former secretary of the city committee, who was also jailed for corruption during his previous post as the head of the CPC committee of Fushun county.

Qin lodged the appeal after his first trial at the People's Court in Gaizhou City in July 2006.
