China will donate 20,000 U.S. dollars to Indonesia to help reconstruct the flood-ravaged capital of Jakarta, said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu on Tuesday.
"China's contribution through the Red Cross organizations of the two countries will assist the Indonesian government to help survivors of extensive flooding in and around Jakarta," Jiang said at a regular press conference.
Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing has sent a message to his Indonesian counterpart Hasan Wirajuda, expressing his sympathy for the casualties and damages suffered by Indonesian people in the current floods, according to Jiang.
Two days of incessant rain in late January triggered floods in Jakarta and its surroundings, a total of 29 people were killed and 350,000 forced to flee their homes as overflowing rivers sent muddy water into homes and shops. This is considered to be one of the worst floods in the capital city.
