State Councilor Zhou Yongkang on Tuesday said the channels through which people can lodge complaints should be broadened.
Zhou, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was briefed on the operation of a national information database on complaint letters and visits, which went into operation on Jan. 4.
Touring the information center, he urged staff to run the information database efficiently, so that officials have a single platform for managing complaints and people can check the response to their letters and complaints from home.
The database will also be useful for policymakers keen to understand what people have on their minds.
He said the national letters and visit information database is an innovation that will give people more channels for submitting complaints.
Zhou visited the reception hall of the State Bureau of Letters and Visits and asking petitioners how they go about registering complaints and how well office staff receive them.
Zhou encouraged officials to devote themselves to resolving the complaints lodged by people so as to reduce social tension.
