China expects enhanced press cooperation with Italy

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with a delegation from the Italian News Agency ANSA on Tuesday, vowing to strengthen cooperation between the press of the two countries.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, told President of ANSA Boris Biancheri that China and Italy have further enhanced political trust and expanded cooperation in various fields since they announced all-round strategic partnership in 2004

The media circle of the two countries have kept good cooperative ties, he added.

The "Year of Italy", a year-long cultural activity, was successfully held in China last year, which helped the Chinese people better understand the history and cultural of Italy, Liu said.

He said he believed the press of the two countries had made active contribution to cementing understanding between the two peoples.

Biancheri said ANSA, as the most influential news agency of Italy, is ready to further enhance friendly cooperation with the Chinese press organizations.

ANSA and China's official Xinhua News Agency have kept cooperative ties over years. After the meeting, the two news agencies signed an agreement to further strengthen their news cooperation.

The delegation is visiting China as guest of Xinhua.
