11 Taliban militants killed in S. Afghanistan
font size

Afghan and NATO troops killed 11 Taliban militants in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, provincial police chief Mohammad Nabi Mullahkhil said Saturday.

Eleven Taliban rebels were killed and three others injured when Afghan and NATO forces targeted their positions in Kajaki district on Friday afternoon, Mullahkhil told Xinhua.

He did not give other details like whether there were casualties of the troops.

NATO air forces killed 10 Taliban insurgents in Sangin district in the province on Thursday night.

Helmand, famous for its gigantic opium product, has been a hotbed of Taliban militants, who clash with foreign and Afghan forces frequently.

More than 300 people, mostly militants, have been killed in Taliban-related violence in Afghanistan this year.
