Syria and Tajikistan signed on Saturday a number of agreements in various fields which culminated the four-day official visit of Tajik President Imamoli Rakhmonov.
According to the official SANA news agency, the agreements involves the economic, scientific, technical, tourism and investment fields, which also included two memos on scientific research and the other is on holding bilateral consultations of the two countries' foreign ministries.
Rakhmonov, who arrived here Wednesday evening, held talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad and other senior officials during the visit.
In a joint statement, the two presidents underscored their keenness to increase cooperation between the two countries in all fields, and the need to work for bringing about peace and stability in the region.
They voiced support to the political process in Iraq and the need to preserve its territorial unity and reiterated support to the establishment of a national unity government by the Palestinians.
They also called for reactivating the role of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in realizing interests and common needs of member states.
The Tajik President also underlined the strategic importance of Syria in the Middle East and voiced conviction of Syria's pivotal role in establishing a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
