Palestinian militants reveal prisoners exchange offer
font size

A spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) revealed on Saturday that a new Egyptian offer to swap an Israeli soldier for Palestinian prisoners.

"The Egyptian brothers have presented a new offer for the factions that hold the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit," said Abu Mujahed, a spokesman for the PRC that shares the capture of the Israeli Corporal in Gaza with Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic Army.

However, Abu Mujahed declined to give details about the proposal, but said the captors were waiting for the Israeli reaction. "The ball is now in the Zionist enemy's playground."

But Abu Mujahed confirmed the Egyptian offer was not far from the captors' demands of freeing some 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in addition to women, children, patients and old prisoners held by Israel.

Shalit was seized by Palestinian militant groups last June in a cross-border raid in southeast Gaza Strip.
