Three Gorges resettlement plan confirmed

The Three Gorges Construction Project Committee of the State Council has confirmed that in 2007, its primary task will be resettling 47,300 residents whose homes have been swamped be the Three Gorges Dam, at a cost of 5.5 billion yuan.

After its working conference, the Three Gorges Construction Project Committee announced that in 2007 it would set a reasonable water storage goal for the Three Gorges Reservoir; work out an annual, scientific plan for resettling approximately 47,300 people at a cost of 5.5 billion yuan; build 1.492 million square meters of housing; remove 69 residual mines and enterprises; construct 1076 kilometers of new road around the reservoir; build 9088 meters of new bridges; purchase 60 new ferries; remove 73 isolated islands; establish 60 schools and finish compensating 180 schools; and equip 35,000 people with new skills.
