font size

Shanghai cracked 912 commercial bribery cases in 2006, involving 170 million yuan (21.25 million U.S. dollars), according to local authorities.

Most of the corruption cases occurred in construction projects, land sales, trade of property rights, buying and selling of medicines, publication and freight.

On Jan. 21, 2007, the Shanghai Municipal Procuratorate arrested tycoon Zhou Zhengyi, former president of the board of directors of the Nongkai Group Company on charges of bribery.

In 2006 the procuratorial organs in Shanghai accepted and heard 2,665 cases, nearly half of which were related to bribery.
