Arrest warrant to be issued against alleged Bangkok bombers
font size

Thailand's acting national police chief Seripisut Temiyavej said Wednesday that an arrest warrant will be issued next week against alleged persons who planted bombs in one of nine Bangkok bombings.

According to news network The Nation, Seripisut made the remark to reporters after holding a meeting of investigators in charge of the case of nine New Year's Eve bombing attacks in Bangkok and Nonthaburi province on the capital's suburb.

He said investigators had gathered enough evidence to obtain warrants against suspects in one of the bombings and probes into the other bombings had also progressed a lot, the report said.

Seripisut was appointed as the acting national police commissioner-general early this month as the former police chief Kowit Wattana was sacked over alleged "poor performance" at his work.

Though not the military-installed interim government did not indicate specifically the reason for Kowit's dismissal, but Kowit had been under pressure from the government and its military backer the Council for National Security to solve the Bangkok bombings. 19 suspects, including military officers, had been arrested under Kowit's capacity as police chief, but only to be released later for lack of evidence.
