Airbus China announced Wednesday that over the next 20 years, until 2025, China will need an additional 3,000 passenger and cargo aircraft, including 2,050 single-aisle aircraft, about 600 small two-aisle aircraft, more than 200 medium-sized two-aisle aircraft and 180 super aircraft. It will need approximately 2,650 passenger planes, worth a total of US$289 billion. By 2025, the number of passenger planes in Chinese mainland will have grown from 760 to 2,700, an increase of nearly 300 percent.
China's air cargo industry is estimated to grow to six times its current size over the next 20 years, which will involve almost 400 cargo planes. The air cargo industry will maintain a high annual economic growth rate: 10.9 percent domestically and 8.9 percent internationally. Big, vibrant big cities with a concentrated population and tremendous potential for outbound travel will lead to a sustained growth in the country's demand for super-large aircrafts in the next 10 years. China will need more than 110 super-large A380 aircrafts for international, long-distance routes as well as regional and domestic routes. Meanwhile, small and medium sized, two-aisle aircraft will be operated on more than 110 new routes in or out of China.
