Internal Arab disputes harm Palestinian cause: Qatari FM
font size

A senior Qatari official warned on Sunday that internal Arab disputes have jeopardized the Palestinian cause, Kuwait's official KUNA news agency reported.

Addressing an Islamic-American forum held in the Qatari capital of Doha, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani said that the Palestinian people have paid costly because of such disagreement, adding that the Palestinian cause was not exclusive to a single Arab country.

Arab citizens, he said, had been aware that the United States did not pay attention to other Arab issues because of strategic relations between the United States and Israel.

If Washington is willing to achieve a settlement in the Middle East, it should push Israel to reach an agreement with Palestinians as soon as possible, he added.

During the forum, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said that the Arab people felt jaded and angry because of the U.S. administration's passiveness when it came to the Palestinian cause.

Moussa said that the result of an international quartet meeting held on Jan. 30 was "zero," adding that the quartet -- the United Nations, the United States, Russia and the European Union, lacked effectiveness.

Moussa also called for an international conference on the Middle East dispute to be sponsored by the UN, saying that the Arabs would like to see the United States as a sincere and candid mediator.
