The disapproval rate of the Japanese Cabinet rose to 40 percent to surpass its approval rate of 37 percent for the first time since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took office last September, the Asahi Shimbun reported on Tuesday.
Among the respondents, 37 percent regarded Abe's work so far as disappointing, 25 percent said he has matched their expectations, and only 1 percent said he has exceeded expectations, the results of a weekend survey sponsored by the major daily newspaper showed.
According to another weekend poll organized by the Yomiuri Shimbun, the approval rate of Abe's Cabinet dropped for the fourth consecutive month to 45.3 percent, while the disapproval rate climbed 3.8 points to reach 42.7 percent.
In the Yomiuri Shimbun survey, 57 percent of respondents thought the prime minister has not shown leadership in his management of the government.
