Israeli forces kill Islamic Jihad senior member in West Bank

Israeli forces killed on Wednesday a senior member from the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement in West Bank city of Jenin, eyewitnesses and hospital sources said.

The witnesses said that Israeli special forces, driving a civilian Volkswagen car, opened fire at Mahmoud Oubaid, 24, while he was in his car in Jenin, and then drove away.

Hospital sources said that Oubaid died as soon as he was transported to the hospital due to the critical wounds he sustained.

Security sources said Oubaid was the commander of Islamic Jihad 's al-Quds Brigades in Jenin area. The sources added that he had survived several assassination attempts in the past.

The incident came a day after Israeli police announced it had thwarted a suicide attack when they arrested a suicide bomber on his way to Israeli city of Tel Aviv. Israeli sources said the detained man was a Islamic Jihad member and came from Jenin.
