The Vietnamese government has recently approved a local project worth 312 million U.S. dollars to upgrade road and waterway networks in southern Mekong Delta between 2007 and 2013.
The project, to be conducted in 13 cities and provinces by the Transport Ministry, aims to improve the transport network, minimize congestion in main road and waterway routes, lower transport fees, and contribute to socioeconomic development in the delta, local newspaper Saigon Liberation reported Thursday.
The project's investment comes from loans of the World Bank and non-refundable aid of the Australian government.
