India may allow export of wheat

The Indian Government Wednesday hinted that it will allow wheat exports if this year's harvest is good.

Last year, the government issued a ban on wheat export until December this year.

Indian Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told Xinhua that lower temperatures in the wheat growing regions of north India raised export expectations.

"If the current crop conditions persist, we will allow wheat exports. We expect more than the forecast of 72.5 million ton of wheat this year," he said.

Last year, India imported 5.5 million tons of wheat.
