Malaysia's auto sales drop in January
font size

Malaysia's total vehicle sales last month stood at 35,047 units, down 14.9 precent from the same period last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) on Thursday.

The decline was due to a major decrease in sales of commercial vehicles, which slumped to 3,060 units from 12,368 units in January last year.

However, passenger car sales rose nearly 11 percent to 31,987 units compared with the same period last year.

MAA attributed January's weak performance to the lack of consumer confidence.

Meanwhile, MAA said that the country's vehicle production volume last month was 29,180 units, also far more lower than 40, 857 units in January 2005.
