The United States will "do everything" it can to stop Iran's nuclear program, American Broadcast Corporation (ABC) quoted U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney as reporting on Friday.
"We hope we can solve the problem diplomatically," but "We haven't taken any options off the table," Cheney said in an interview with the ABC News network in Australia, where he is traveling.
Claiming "nuclear-armed Iran is not a very pleasant prospect for anybody to think about," Cheney said, "We need to continue to do everything we can to make sure they (Iranians) don't achieve that objective."
Cheney made the remarks after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report Thursday, saying Iran has ignored a Security Council resolution to freeze uranium enrichment.
Expressing disappointment over Iran's insistence to hold on its nuclear program, Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said the United States will discuss the issue with its allies.
The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1737 on Dec. 23, 2006, demanding Iran stop all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities including research and development, and work on all heavy water-related projects, in 60 days.
Iran refuses to heed the Security Council's demand by the deadline that fell on Feb. 21, 2007.
